Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has agreed to serve as the chief adviser in the interim government in Bangladesh

Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin has announced that an interim government will be formed following the dissolution of parliament. He made this statement during a meeting at Bangabhaban in Dhaka, attended by leaders of various political parties, civil society representatives, and the chiefs of the three armed forces. The President indicated that the army would take measures to restore order amid the current anarchic situation. The meeting also resolved to release Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who is currently under house arrest following her conviction in several cases. Additionally, President Shahabuddin ordered the release of all students arrested during the ongoing protests.

In a related development, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country on a military aircraft yesterday. The army has stepped in to fill the resulting power vacuum. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army’s media wing, Army Chief General Wakar-Uz-Zaman will soon meet with representatives of students and teachers. General Zaman also announced that all government and semi-government offices, private offices, factories, and educational institutions, including schools, colleges, madrasas, and universities, will reopen today.
