Papon Appeals for Help as Assam Flood Crisis Leaves Thousands Displaced

Singer highlights Assam’s flood devastation as villages remain submerged, families displaced and relief operations continue across affected districts.

In a video message shared on social media, the Assam-born singer expressed concern over the scale of destruction, saying that several villages have been submerged, many families have lost their homes, and people are struggling to recover from the impact of the floods.

Papon urged people to come forward and contribute in whatever way possible, stressing the need for collective efforts during the difficult time. He said the situation in Assam requires immediate attention as residents continue to face displacement, loss of livelihoods, and damage to property and livestock.

According to the latest flood report issued by the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS), the death toll in Assam has climbed to 68. Several districts continue to remain affected, with authorities focusing on rescue operations, relief distribution, and rehabilitation measures.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government has deployed ministers and officials to oversee relief activities in the worst-hit regions, including Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Golaghat.

The state administration is also working on restoring essential services, including electricity supply, in areas where power was temporarily suspended as a safety measure during flooding. Teams from Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd are conducting inspections and gradually restoring connections across affected districts.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has described the flood situation as critical and said that the Centre and the Assam government are working together to provide assistance to affected residents. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been monitoring the situation and assured all possible support for relief and rescue operations.

Authorities continue to assess the damage and provide emergency assistance as Assam battles one of its most challenging flood situations in recent years.
