Karnataka Electoral Roll Revision Drive to Start From June 20, Over 5.55 Crore Voters to Be Verified

Booth Level Officers to Conduct Door-to-Door Verification Across Karnataka for Electoral Roll Update

In a major move to strengthen the accuracy of voter records, the Election Commission of India has announced that Karnataka will begin the next phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls from June 20. More than 5.55 crore voters across the State are expected to be covered under the large-scale verification campaign.

The revision exercise is part of the Election Commission’s nationwide programme aimed at updating voter databases ahead of upcoming elections and eliminating errors in electoral rolls.

According to Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Anbu Kumar, nearly 86 percent of the voter mapping process has already been completed. The remaining work is expected to finish before the official launch of the revision drive.

As per the schedule released by the Election Commission, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will begin house-to-house verification from June 30. The field exercise will continue till July 29, during which officials will verify voter details, identify shifts in residence, add eligible citizens, and remove incorrect or duplicate entries.

The Election Commission said the intensive revision is being carried out in coordination with the ongoing Census-related activities to ensure smoother implementation and better data accuracy.

Officials believe the exercise will help create a cleaner and more transparent electoral roll system in Karnataka before future elections. Citizens may also be asked to provide updated documents and verify personal details during the door-to-door visits.

The Election Commission has urged voters to cooperate with BLOs during the verification process to avoid discrepancies in voter records later.
