Delhi rape-murder accused flagged for violent past and behavioural red flags

New Delhi: Fresh details in the Kailash Hills rape-murder investigation have revealed disturbing behavioural patterns in the accused, prompting investigators to consider a psychological assessment as part of the ongoing probe.

Police sources said Rahul Meena, the main accused in the brutal killing of a 22-year-old civil services aspirant in Kailash Hills, had a history of aggressive conduct and was known for violent tendencies in his native village. Officials indicated that his behavioural profile is now under scrutiny as investigators attempt to understand the motive and mindset behind the crime.

According to investigators, Meena entered the victim’s residence on Wednesday morning using a spare key he was aware of from his earlier employment as a household help. He allegedly attacked the victim after she refused to give him money, strangling her with a charger cable and assaulting her until she lost consciousness.

Police said the accused then sexually assaulted the victim while she was unconscious and later attempted to use her fingerprints to unlock a biometric safe inside the house. When unsuccessful, he reportedly broke open the locker and fled with cash and jewellery.

The accused was arrested later the same day, and officials revealed that he had a gambling addiction, having reportedly lost around ₹7 lakh in online betting and card games. This financial distress is being examined as a possible motive behind the crime.

Medical findings from All India Institute of Medical Sciences confirmed that the victim died due to strangulation following a violent assault. The autopsy report noted multiple injuries, including fractures and signs of struggle, indicating she attempted to resist the attacker.

Investigators are continuing to collect forensic evidence and may reconstruct the crime scene to fill gaps where CCTV footage is unavailable. Senior officers said a detailed psychological evaluation of the accused could provide further insight into his actions and help strengthen the case.
