AIIMS Majra Set to Begin MBBS Classes in September, OPD Likely by December-January

Rewari: JPYadav, The under-construction AIIMS at Majra in Rewari district is moving towards operationalisation, with MBBS classes scheduled to begin in September and the administration targeting the launch of OPD, inpatient, emergency and operation theatre services by **December or January*. Six doctors have already been appointed, while work on key infrastructure and patient facilities is being accelerated.

AIIMS officials said the construction agency is expected to hand over the *main block by December*, after which healthcare services will be expanded. The administration is working to start OPD along with basic IPD, emergency and OT facilities rather than limiting the initial rollout to outpatient services.

The move is expected to significantly reduce the dependence on *PGIMS Rohtak for referrals of serious patients from Rewari and Mahendragarh. Once AIIMS Majra becomes fully operational, patients from these districts are expected to be referred to the new institute for advanced and super-speciality treatment. The facility is also expected to cater to patients from adjoining areas of Rajasthan, including **Alwar and Jhunjhunu*.

The *210-acre campus* is witnessing work on internal roads and water-supply infrastructure. Fresh-water tanks are being constructed within the campus, while a separate water-supply project has been proposed on around 15 acres of land nearby. Arrangements for uninterrupted power supply have also been made.

The *AYUSH block, nursing college and hostel facilities* are nearing completion, while the academic block is in the final stage. The second entrance towards Chitadongra village and the nursing college building are also reported to be ready.

The administration is prioritising the early start of OPD and IPD services as MBBS students will require access to patients for practical and clinical training.

Free e-rickshaw service planned

To facilitate movement within the sprawling campus, AIIMS administration plans to operate *e-rickshaws for patients, attendants and students*, with the service proposed to be free. Parking facilities are also being developed around the hospital and AYUSH blocks.

Preparations have gathered pace since *Rakesh Kumar was appointed Director of AIIMS Majra by the Government of India*. The administration is working to complete the remaining arrangements ahead of the phased launch of academic and medical services.
