Washington DC- A string of deaths and disappearances involving individuals linked to sensitive scientific work in the United States has come under federal scrutiny, with the Federal Bureau of Investigation leading efforts to determine whether any connections exist.
According to reports, at least 10 scientists and experts associated with nuclear and aerospace research have died or gone missing over the past few years. The cases range from unexplained deaths to missing persons incidents, many without clear evidence of foul play.
Authorities said the FBI is coordinating with agencies including the Department of Energy, the United States Department of Defense, and the NASA to assess the situation.
Separately, the House Oversight Committee has launched its own inquiry, citing concerns over the individuals’ access to highly sensitive research. Lawmakers have sought briefings from multiple federal bodies to better understand whether there is any broader pattern.
Officials have so far not established any confirmed links between the incidents. Some cases involve natural causes or personal circumstances, while others remain unresolved. Families of some of the individuals have also questioned attempts to connect unrelated events.
Among the cases highlighted is the death of a long-time research scientist associated with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, as well as the disappearance of a retired US Air Force general from New Mexico. Another aerospace engineer reportedly went missing during a hike in Los Angeles.
While some lawmakers have described the developments as a potential national security concern, others have urged caution against drawing conclusions without concrete evidence.
The White House has also indicated that it is monitoring the situation in coordination with relevant agencies. Officials emphasised that investigations are ongoing and no definitive findings have been reached so far.
