New Shelter Home for Mentally Challenged Individuals to Be Built in Marmurpur, Narela

Social Welfare Minister Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh Inspects Proposed Site

New Delhi, March 19, 2025 : Social Welfare, SC/ST Welfare, Elections, and Cooperation Minister Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh conducted an inspection of the proposed site for a new shelter home for mentally challenged individuals in Marmurpur, Narela. The Social Welfare Department has identified 9 acres of land for the project, aimed at providing better residential facilities for mentally challenged individuals.

Accompanied by officials from the Social Welfare Department, Revenue Department, PWD, and architects, the Minister directed the concerned authorities to demarcate the land, remove encroachments (if any), and ensure the site is free from legal hurdles.

Government’s Commitment to Divyang Welfare

Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh highlighted that Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta recently inspected the Asha Kiran Home in Rohini and emphasized the need to accelerate the renovation of existing shelter homes while also constructing new facilities. The Minister assured that the government is taking proactive steps to enhance facilities for mentally challenged individuals, ensuring their dignity and well-being.

Key Features of the Upcoming Shelter Home

The proposed home in Marmurpur is expected to:
Decongest existing shelter homes
✅ Provide a modern, inclusive residential complex
✅ Prioritize adequate sunlight, accessibility, and open spaces
✅ Feature a sensory park and recreational areas for residents
✅ Ensure barrier-free infrastructure for ease of movement

Inclusive Design & Accessibility

The Minister emphasized that the design of the shelter home must be inclusive, ensuring that individuals with disabilities experience ease of living. He instructed officials to incorporate:
Sensory parks to support cognitive and emotional development
Open spaces for a comfortable and healing environment
Adequate sunlight & ventilation to create a healthy atmosphere

Government’s Focus on Empowerment

Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh reiterated that providing better facilities and empowering Divyang individuals remains a top priority of the government. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader mission to enhance the quality of life for disadvantaged sections of society.
