Speaker Vijender Gupta Announces Landmark Initiative at Valedictory Session
The Impressive TimesNew Delhi, March 19, 2025 : In a historic move, Hon’ble Speaker Shri Vijender Gupta announced the launch of the ‘Best MLA of the Year’ award during the valedictory session of the Orientation Programme for Newly Elected Members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The award aims to recognize and encourage exemplary legislative performance based on criteria such as parliamentary debate excellence, attendance record, and decorum maintained in the House. Deputy Speaker Mr. Mohan Singh Bist was also present at the event.
Shri Vijender Gupta emphasized that the award would motivate MLAs to uphold the highest parliamentary standards and actively contribute to meaningful legislative discussions. “This initiative will help establish the Delhi Legislative Assembly as a c, setting new benchmarks in democratic governance,” he stated.
On this occasion, the Speaker also presented mementos to legislators as a token of appreciation for their commitment to public service.
The two-day Orientation Programme, organized by the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), aimed to equip newly elected MLAs with essential parliamentary knowledge. The sessions covered:

✅ Question hour protocols and legislative motions
✅ Policy-making frameworks and legislative drafting
✅ Good governance practices
The programme featured expert-led lectures, discussions, and interactive sessions designed to enhance the effectiveness of legislators in governance.
Expressing satisfaction with the programme’s success, Shri Gupta reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to continuous capacity-building initiatives for MLAs. “These comprehensive training sessions empower our legislators with essential knowledge and skills to serve the people effectively,” he added.
