Delhi Police Detain Coordinator and Owner of Rau’s IAS Centre After Tragic Flooding

New Delhi,  The Delhi Police have detained the coordinator and owner of Rau’s IAS Centre in Old Rajinder Nagar following a tragic incident where three UPSC aspirants, including two women, drowned in a flooded basement. The flooding was caused by a nearby drain burst, rapidly inundating the area.

Protests erupted outside the coaching center, with students demanding accountability and immediate action against those responsible. Delhi Minister Atishi has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident, requesting a report from the Chief Secretary within 24 hours.

The tragedy has ignited a political blame game between the Opposition BJP and the ruling AAP. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva and New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj visited the site, criticizing the AAP administration for negligence and claiming that the area MLA ignored appeals to clean the drains. The BJP has called for a compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of the deceased and the registration of a police case against the Delhi government and the MCD.

In response, AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak defended the local administration, stating the incident was due to a single drain burst and not general negligence. Pathak urged against politicizing the tragedy and pointed out that the area had a BJP councillor for 15 years, questioning their accountability as well. Meanwhile, the Congress party has demanded a CBI probe into alleged misuse of desilting funds, with leader Abhishek Dutt calling for immediate investigation into financial irregularities.

The situation remains tense as authorities continue their investigation and political parties engage in heated exchanges over responsibility and accountability.
