New Delhi, July 28,2024 :Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 112th ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on Akashvani, addressed several pressing issues and celebrated India’s rich cultural heritage. Highlighting the growing concern over drug abuse, Modi urged families, institutions, and citizens to actively participate in making India drug-free.
“Every family is worried that their child might get caught in the grip of drugs,” Modi stated. He announced the government’s initiative of opening a special center named ‘Manas’ to combat drug abuse and introduced a toll-free helpline number, 1933, for rehabilitation advice and information. “I urge all people, all families, and all institutions engaged in making India drug-free to make full use of the Manas Helpline,” he added.
In a moment of pride, Modi celebrated the inclusion of Assam’s Charaideo Maidam in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, marking India’s 43rd site on the list and the first Cultural World Heritage site from the Northeast. He elaborated on its significance, noting that Charaideo was the first capital of the Ahom dynasty, where the mortal remains and valuables of ancestors were traditionally kept.
“A country can progress only by taking pride in her culture,” Modi emphasized. He highlighted Project PARI (Public Art of India), which aims to bring emerging artists together to popularize public art. Modi also praised the efforts of 250 women from Rohtak district in Haryana, who joined the UNNATI Self-Help Group to master block printing and dyeing. Their creations, including bed covers, sarees, and dupattas, are now in high demand, earning them significant income.
With National Handloom Day approaching on August 7, Modi expressed happiness over the growing popularity of local products and encouraged people to share their creations on social media with the hashtag #MyProductMyPride. He noted the increased turnover of the Khadi Village Industry, which has crossed ₹1.5 lakh crore for the first time, reflecting a 400% increase.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the upcoming International Tiger Day, emphasizing India’s efforts in tiger conservation. He praised the “Kulhadi Band Panchayat” campaign from Ranthambore, Rajasthan, where local communities pledged not to cut trees, creating a better environment for tigers. “Public participation is proving very useful in tiger conservation,” Modi said, noting that India is home to 70% of the world’s tigers.
Lastly, Modi highlighted the excitement surrounding the Paris Olympics, encouraging Indians to support their athletes. “The Olympics give our players a chance to hoist the Tricolour on the world stage; give them a chance to do something for the country. Let us encourage our players… Cheer for Bharat!!” he urged.
