Army Chief Pays Tribute to Fallen Himachal Soldier in Kupwara Encounter

General Upendra Dwivedi Honors Naik Dilwar Khan, Saluting His Valor and Sacrifice

Srinagar, July 25 2024 :  Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi paid tribute to Naik (Gunner) Dilwar Khan, who was killed in a gun battle in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Army announced on Thursday that the wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Army’s Chinar Corps headquarters in Badami Bagh, Srinagar, on Wednesday evening.

Senior Army, civil, and police officials attended the ceremony to honor the fallen soldier. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and all ranks of the Indian Army expressed their solidarity with Naik Khan’s family during this difficult time.

In a statement, the Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) posted on X, “General Upendra Dwivedi #COAS laid a wreath & paid homage to Naik Dilwar Khan, who laid down his life in the line of duty. #COAS and All Ranks of #IndianArmy salute his immense valour & sacrifice and stand firm with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”

Naik Khan, a 28-year-old soldier from the Army’s 28 Rashtriya Rifles and a resident of Bangana in Una district of Himachal Pradesh, was critically injured during an encounter in the Trumkhan forests of Kupwara. He succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. The encounter, which began on Tuesday evening, also resulted in the death of an unidentified militant when joint forces launched a combing operation in the area.

Officials confirmed that Khan’s body has been flown back to his home state, where his funeral will be conducted with full state honors on Thursday.
