Tokyo/New Delhi, July 29, 2024: In a significant meeting in Tokyo, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar underscored the Quad alliance’s pivotal role in maintaining a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific amid growing regional challenges from China.
Addressing the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Jaishankar highlighted the alliance’s commitment to global stability and economic resilience. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among the United States, Japan, Australia, and India, noting ongoing engagements since their last formal meeting in New York.
The minister stressed the need for strengthened political understanding, expanded economic partnerships, enhanced technological collaborations, and improved people-to-people ties. He pointed out the challenges of sustaining economic growth and fortifying supply chains while building trusted digital partnerships. Jaishankar acknowledged the transformative impact of technology on global dynamics and urged collective efforts to protect the international system from disruptions. He reiterated the Quad’s dedication to promoting a rules-based order and democratic values worldwide.
The meeting, attended by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, and Australia’s Penny Wong, affirmed the Quad’s commitment to shaping regional and global affairs. Jaishankar’s remarks sent a clear message: “The Quad is here to stay, here to do, and here to grow.”
