Uttam Nagar Holi Murder: MCD Demolishes Accused’s House, Delhi HC Steps In

Civic body calls it routine action against illegal construction as High Court grants relief to family, halts further demolition

New Delhi: In a significant development linked to the Uttam Nagar Holi murder case, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday demolished an under-construction multi-storey house belonging to one of the accused, even as authorities maintained that the action was part of a routine drive against illegal structures.

The demolition was carried out under heavy police presence, with local law enforcement and paramilitary personnel deployed to maintain order during the operation. Officials stated that the कार्रवाई was not connected to the murder case but was instead based on alleged unauthorised construction.

However, the matter soon reached the Delhi High Court, which intervened and ordered a temporary halt on further action. Justice Amit Bansal granted the accused’s family time to challenge the demolition before the MCD Appellate Tribunal. The court directed the civic body to maintain status quo for ten days, allowing the family an opportunity to seek legal relief.

According to MCD officials, a notice regarding the незакон construction had been issued earlier, and the property was allegedly being expanded without proper approvals by merging adjoining plots. Authorities подчеркнули that similar actions are routinely carried out across different zones as part of enforcement drives.

Police officials confirmed they were informed about the demolition in advance and ensured adequate deployment to prevent any law and order issues. They reiterated that such drives are conducted periodically and are not linked to individual criminal cases.

The property in question is located in an unauthorised colony, where many buildings reportedly lack approved plans. Local residents indicated that families of those accused in the murder case have largely vacated the area following the incident.

The case stems from a violent clash on Holi earlier this year in Hastsal village, where a 26-year-old man lost his life after a dispute reportedly triggered by a water balloon incident escalated. So far, police have arrested multiple individuals, including minors, in connection with the crime.

As legal proceedings continue, the incident has raised questions about the overlap between civic enforcement actions and ongoing criminal investigations, even as authorities maintain that the two remain unrelated.
