Rekha Gupta Hails BJP Sweep in Bengal and Assam, Calls It Mandate for Development Politics

Delhi CM credits Modi government’s welfare agenda for decisive public endorsement across states

New Delhi, May 4, 2026: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday welcomed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s strong performance in the Assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam, describing the outcome as a clear reflection of public confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Centre’s development focused governance model.

Extending her congratulations to the party leadership, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Gupta termed the results a decisive and historic mandate in favour of growth oriented politics. She said the verdict signals strong approval for policies aimed at welfare delivery and administrative efficiency.

Gupta asserted that West Bengal, along with other states, would now benefit from central government initiatives in a manner similar to Delhi, adding that a faster pace of development could be expected under the BJP’s governance framework. She expressed confidence that the state would witness significant progress in infrastructure and public welfare implementation.

The Chief Minister made these remarks while celebrating the electoral outcome at the Delhi Secretariat along with cabinet colleagues, where the mood was marked by informal discussions and a symbolic sharing of traditional Bengali snacks.

She further stated that the election results represent a shift in voter mindset, with people increasingly prioritising governance outcomes over political slogans. According to her, citizens are now placing greater emphasis on transparency, delivery, and measurable development.

Gupta also highlighted flagship central schemes such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Digital India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat, stating that these initiatives have played a key role in improving living standards across the country. She added that targeted empowerment of women, farmers, youth, and economically weaker sections has strengthened India’s overall growth trajectory.

Referring specifically to West Bengal, she alleged that several central schemes had not been fully implemented in the state earlier. She said the new political direction would ensure better delivery of welfare programmes and improved access to government benefits for citizens.
