Kolkata, May 4, 2026: Jubilant scenes unfolded outside the Bhabanipur counting centre on Monday as Bharatiya Janata Party workers burst into celebration after early election trends indicated the party had crossed the majority threshold in the fiercely contested West Bengal Assembly elections.
Supporters gathered in large numbers near the counting venue, waving party flags, distributing sweets, and raising victory slogans as the BJP surged ahead in what could mark a historic breakthrough in a state long dominated by the Trinamool Congress.
The atmosphere in Bhabanipur, one of Bengal’s most politically significant constituencies, turned charged as the BJP’s performance suggested a major electoral upset.
