Himanta Biswa Sarma Creates History, Returns as Assam CM for Second Straight Term

BJP-Led NDA Secures Massive Victory in Assam, Himanta Begins New Tenure with Grand Swearing-In Ceremony

In a significant political development in the Northeast, Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again taken charge as the Chief Minister of Assam after the BJP-led NDA registered a sweeping victory in the state Assembly elections. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara, Guwahati, amid the presence of several top national leaders and dignitaries.

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sarma, marking his second consecutive term as chief minister. With this achievement, Sarma has become the first leader outside the Congress party to hold the state’s top post for two successive terms.

The event witnessed the attendance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and several senior BJP and NDA leaders from across the country.

The BJP delivered a dominant performance in the Assam Assembly elections by winning 82 out of 126 seats. Alliance partners AGP and BPF added 10 seats each, taking the NDA tally to a commanding 102 seats in the Assembly.

Sarma also registered an emphatic victory from the Jalukbari constituency, defeating his rival by a margin of more than 89,000 votes. Political analysts see the result as a strong endorsement of the BJP government’s governance model and development agenda in the state.

Alongside Sarma, BJP leaders Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro and Ajanta Neog also took oath as ministers in the new cabinet.

Meanwhile, senior BJP MLA Ranjit Das has been nominated for the Speaker’s post in the Assam Legislative Assembly.

This marks the third straight term for the NDA government in Assam. The alliance first formed the government in 2016 under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal and has continued to strengthen its political hold in the region ever since.
