Kangana Ranaut Questions Opposition Strategy Amid Parliament Deadlock

New Delhi, August 13, 2026; BJP MP Kangana Ranaut on Thursday criticised the Opposition over continued disruptions in Parliament, accusing it of seeking government responses while simultaneously resisting a debate on the student protest issue.

Ranaut said the repeated protests were affecting the functioning of Parliament and described the situation as increasingly disruptive. She questioned the approach of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he was seeking answers from the Union Home Ministry while opposing an opportunity for Home Minister Amit Shah to respond in the House.

The remarks came amid a standoff between the government and Opposition parties over protests by students in Delhi and allegations concerning police action against them. Opposition leaders have been pressing for clarification from the government, while the ruling side has maintained that the matter can be addressed through parliamentary discussion.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had earlier said that Amit Shah was prepared to take part in a discussion and respond to concerns raised by the Opposition.

Ranaut argued that Parliament should be allowed to function and that differences should be addressed through debate rather than repeated protests. She also alleged that the Opposition was using the issue to create disruptions instead of focusing on broader matters such as development, the economy and national security.

The Opposition, however, has maintained that it wants specific answers regarding the alleged use of force against protesting students rather than what it describes as a general response from the government.

The disagreement has emerged as a major flashpoint during the Monsoon Session, with repeated disruptions affecting proceedings in both Houses. The ruling NDA has accused the Opposition of deliberately obstructing parliamentary business, while Opposition parties have continued to demand accountability from the government.

Ranaut urged Opposition members to participate in parliamentary proceedings and allow a discussion on the issue, as the confrontation between the two sides continues.
