Kangana Ranaut Backs Deepika Padukone on 8-Hour Shift Demand, Says ‘She Has Earned That Right’

Actor-MP supports work-life balance for new mothers amid ongoing industry debate

New Delhi: Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has come out in support of Deepika Padukone’s demand for shorter work hours, stating that the actress has “earned” the right to opt for an 8-hour shift, especially after embracing motherhood.

The debate around working hours in the film industry resurfaced after Deepika reportedly stepped away from major projects, including Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, over her preference for limited working hours. While the decision sparked divided opinions within the industry, Kangana has now weighed in with a strong endorsement.

Speaking during a recent podcast, Kangana emphasised that professional expectations evolve with time, experience, and personal responsibilities. She pointed out that someone at Deepika’s level in the industry is in a position to set boundaries.

“She is among the top actresses today and has reached that space through years of work. If she wants to limit her working hours now, especially as a mother, it is completely justified,” Kangana said.

Reflecting on earlier days in the industry, Kangana recalled how actors often pushed themselves to work long shifts of 12 to 14 hours in pursuit of success. However, she noted that such intense schedules are not always sustainable, particularly after major life changes.

“When you’re starting out, you are more replaceable and willing to stretch yourself. But once you’ve built your place, your priorities change,” she added.

The discussion around Deepika’s work schedule had earlier triggered a broader conversation on work-life balance in Bollywood, with some industry voices supporting her stance while others questioned its feasibility in large-scale productions.

Despite the controversy, Deepika continues to be associated with high-profile projects, including Atlee’s Raaka alongside Allu Arjun and King, starring Shah Rukh Khan.

Kangana, meanwhile, was last seen in Emergency, where she portrayed former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and is set to make her international debut with the upcoming horror-drama Blessed Be the Evil.
