Bastar Tiranga Yatra Begins in Narayanpur, Led by Dy CM & HM Vijay Sharma and Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap

Raipur: The Bastar Tiranga Yatra 2026 began from Narayanpur on Wednesday, with Chhattisgarh Dy CM and Home Minister Vijay Sharma and Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap leading the motorcycle rally carrying the national flag through former Maoist-affected areas. The journey, aimed at promoting peace, unity and development, was flagged off by local community representatives. Vijay Sharma said Narayanpur was chosen as the starting point due to its long history of Maoist violence. The three-day yatra will conclude on August 14 at Karregutta Hill in Bijapur, where the Tricolour will be hoisted.

Vijay Sharma said the rally would pass through former Maoist-affected areas to highlight the region’s transition towards peace and development, with the government focusing on roads, education, skill development, forest produce processing and employment. Kedar Kashyap said the Tricolour was being taken through areas once considered Maoist strongholds and that soil from places where security personnel and civilians were killed would be collected for a future memorial.

On the first day, the rally travelled from Narayanpur through Munjmeta, Jharagaon, Dhaudai, Kanhargaon, Kadenar, Bodli, Satdhar and Barsur before reaching Dantewada. On the second day, it will pass through Maoist-affected areas of Dantewada, Sukma and Bijapur. The final leg on August 14 will cover Awapalli, Usoor, Galgam, Nambi and Tadpala before reaching Karregutta Hill.

Vijay Sharma said more than 90 villages in Bastar division will witness the Tricolour on Independence Day for the first time since Independence, crediting local residents and security personnel for the region’s progress beyond Maoist violence. The event was attended by public representatives, officials, youths and local residents, including Bastar Commissioner Doman Singh, IG Badri Narayan Meena, Collector Namrata Jain and SP Sandeep Kumar Patel.
