New Delhi: On the birth anniversary of Delhi’s former Chief Minister, Late Madan Lal Khurana, the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) officially renamed the old General Store Chowk under the Punjabi Bagh flyover as “Madan Lal Khurana Chowk.” The inauguration ceremony, organized under the supervision of the PWD, Government of NCT Delhi, marked a moment of pride for the residents of West Delhi.

The unveiling of the nameplate was carried out by PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, Ravindra Indraj, Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj, and MLA Rajkumar Bhatia. MLA Harish Khurana’s mother, Smt. Raj Madan Lal Khurana, graced the occasion, witnessing the tribute to her late husband. MLA Harish Khurana attended as a special guest. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta extended greetings to the attendees via video call, fondly recalling Khurana’s contributions to Delhi’s growth and governance.
Chief Guest Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma said that the Delhi government is renaming historically and culturally significant locations after local heroes, freedom fighters, and public leaders to inspire future generations through their legacies. MP Bansuri Swaraj, in her address, said, “Late Madan Lal Khurana’s integrity, dedication, and service towards Delhi will continue to inspire generations. This Chowk is not just a name but a reminder of a visionary leader who modernized the city and worked tirelessly for its people.” MLA Harish Khurana, paying tribute to his father, expressed that the renaming is both an emotional and proud moment for the community. He announced upcoming plans to beautify the Chowk, install new lighting, and streamline traffic in the area. Minister for Social Justice Ravindra Indraj Singh highlighted that the Chowk symbolizes not only Delhi’s heritage but also its progress and modern identity. He congratulated all officials involved in the successful execution of the initiative. Kapil Mishra added, “Let us continue this collective effort to make Delhi more progressive, smart, and proud.” Late Madan Lal Khurana, a veteran BJP leader and beloved Chief Minister, was instrumental in transforming Delhi’s infrastructure through development of roads, bridges, and public facilities.

His leadership gave a new identity to the capital’s urban structure. Known as a true people’s leader, he remained especially respected among residents of Punjabi Bagh, Rani Bagh, and West Delhi. The event was attended by Karol Bagh District BJP President Virender Babbar, former MLA Subhash Sachdeva, P.K. Chandela, former Councillor Ved Gupta, Vipin Malhotra, Raju Lamba, Moti Nagar Mandal President Abhishek Anand, K.K. Tiwari, Ramesh Nagar Mandal President Divya Gosai, senior journalist Manoj Saluja, former President Rajeev Gupta, RWA representatives, trade association members, and senior Delhi government officials.
