Patna, June 5: The Bihar government has withdrawn the Z-plus security cover provided to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi following a review of security arrangements for VIPs in the state.
According to an official notification issued on Thursday, both former Chief Ministers will now receive security protection from the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP). The decision was taken after the state government conducted a comprehensive review of security cover extended to various VIP protectees.
The government has also withdrawn the Y-category security cover of Tej Pratap Yadav, chief of the Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD) and elder son of Lalu Prasad.
Officials stated that the existing security arrangement for Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi will continue to include BSAP house guards, personal bodyguards from the Patna District Force, along with a pilot vehicle and bulletproof car.
However, the Bihar government has retained the Y-plus security cover of Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav. The security arrangements for Rajya Sabha MP Misa Bharti and Rajshree Yadav, wife of Tejashwi Yadav, will also remain unchanged.
The move comes months ahead of the political season in Bihar and has triggered discussions within political circles regarding VIP security protocols in the state.
