Bodh Gaya (Bihar), May 30, 2026: Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing arrived in Bihar’s Bodh Gaya on Saturday as part of his official visit to India, with New Delhi highlighting the long-standing spiritual, historical, and people-to-people ties between the two nations.

Upon his arrival at the airport, the Myanmar President was received by Bihar Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.), marking a ceremonial welcome in the Buddhist pilgrimage town. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit reflects the strong civilisational connection shared by India and Myanmar.

President Min Aung Hlaing later visited the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, one of the most sacred sites in Buddhism and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, drawing attention to the shared cultural heritage between the two countries.

According to the MEA, the visit—taking place from May 30 to June 2 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi—is the Myanmar President’s first trip to India in his current capacity. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising cabinet ministers, senior officials, and business leaders.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the discussions during the visit will cover a wide range of issues, including border security, connectivity, and overall bilateral cooperation. He emphasised India’s commitment to strengthening friendly ties rooted in shared civilisational values.

The itinerary includes formal bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 1, where both sides are expected to review historical relations and explore avenues for deeper cooperation.

The visit will also feature participation in a business forum in New Delhi aimed at boosting economic engagement, followed by industry interactions and site visits in Mumbai on June 2.

Officials said the structured programme reflects India’s effort to blend diplomacy with economic and cultural engagement, further strengthening relations with Myanmar.
