New Delhi/Dibrugarh, April 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a tea plantation in Dibrugarh on Wednesday, where he interacted with workers and experienced tea plucking during his trip to the poll-bound state of Assam.
During the visit, the Prime Minister spent time with tea garden workers, clicked pictures with them, and observed their daily routine closely. Calling the experience “memorable,” he acknowledged the contribution of tea garden families in shaping Assam’s identity and global recognition.
Highlighting the importance of tea production in the region, Modi described Assam’s tea as an integral part of the state’s heritage and a symbol of its pride worldwide. He appreciated the dedication and resilience of workers, noting that their efforts have helped Indian tea gain international prominence.
Election Campaign in Focus
The visit comes as part of the Prime Minister’s campaign activities ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Assam. He is scheduled to address two major public gatherings during the day.
The first rally will take place in Gogamukh, located in Dhemaji district, followed by another event in the Biswanath region. Senior leaders of the BJP and state government representatives are expected to be present at both gatherings.
At these rallies, Modi will campaign in support of party candidates, including Ranoj Pegu and Naba Kumar Doley in upper Assam, as well as Pallab Lochan Das in the Behali constituency.
The Assam Legislative Assembly elections will be conducted across all 126 constituencies in a single phase on April 9. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4, along with election results from states such as Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has been governing Assam since 2016, marking the party’s first electoral victory in the state.
