Haridwar | January 22, 2026- Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Wednesday said that India’s spiritual heritage holds answers to global challenges and that the nation’s spiritual reconstruction will benefit not only India but the entire world.
Addressing the “Centenary Year Ceremony – 2026” organised by the Gayatri Parivar in Haridwar, Shah described the event as a confluence of faith, spirituality, and culture. The programme marked the birth centenary of Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma Ji and 100 years of the Akhand Deep. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other dignitaries were also present.
Speaking at the Akhand Jyoti Conference, the Home Minister said he felt a sense of “continuous energy and consciousness,” adding that India’s civilisational wisdom provides solutions to modern global crises. He emphasised that spiritual transformation of individuals is the first step toward nation-building and global welfare.

Shah highlighted the vision of Pandit Ram Sharma Acharya, who believed that personal transformation leads to national resurgence and ultimately to the creation of a new era. Recalling his famous message “Hum Badlenge, Yug Badlega” (We will change, the era will change), the Home Minister said the slogan gave the nation a new direction rooted in moral and spiritual values.
He noted that the period of 1925–26 was historically significant for India’s revival, as institutions such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Gita Press, and Akhand Jyoti were established during that time. The convergence of their centenary milestones, he said, symbolises a divine moment in India’s resurgence.
The Home Minister praised Pandit Ram Sharma Ji for taking spirituality beyond temple walls and making it accessible to the masses through the Gayatri Mantra. He explained that the mantra’s 24 syllables correspond to 24 spiritual centres associated with virtues, which nurture selflessness, courage, and intellect when awakened.
Highlighting the inclusive nature of the Gayatri movement, Shah said Pandit Ji worked beyond caste, gender, and social divisions, promoted social reforms, opposed dowry, encouraged women’s spiritual participation, and led movements against addiction and social evils. He also recalled the role played by Pandit Ram Sharma Ji during the freedom struggle and in post-independence nation-building efforts.
Referring to the Gayatri Parivar’s global outreach, Shah said the organisation today guides over 15 crore followers across more than 100 countries and continues to serve society during national crises such as floods, earthquakes, and pandemics.
The Home Minister stressed that religion and science are complementary, not contradictory, and credited Pandit Ram Sharma Ji for applying logic and scientific reasoning to spirituality. He remarked that seeing children in the Gayatri Parivar holding a Veda in one hand and a laptop in the other reflects how tradition and modernity can progress together.
Speaking about India’s journey in the Amrit Kaal, Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presented a vision of a fully developed India that rises above materialism while advancing spiritually. He added that this vision has become the collective resolve of 140 crore Indians and cannot be achieved without the active participation of social and spiritual organisations.
He also referred to major national developments in recent years, including the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, restoration of Kashi Vishwanath and Somnath temples, abrogation of Article 370, and steps toward a Common Civil Code. He said there was a time when people hesitated to speak about Hindutva, but today they express their faith with pride.
