Maharashtra Government Halts Puja Khedkar’s District Training Amid UPSC Fraud Allegations

Mumbai, July 16, 2024 : The Maharashtra government has decided to suspend district training for controversial Indian Administrative Services (IAS) probationer Puja Khedkar, following allegations of fraud related to her UPSC Civil Services Examination candidacy.

Puja Khedkar, a Maharashtra cadre officer, has been recalled from her District Training Programme by the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie, pending further action. This decision was communicated through a letter from Maharashtra’s Additional Chief Secretary Nitin Gadre.

Khedkar faces accusations of using fraudulent means to clear the UPSC exam, including alleged misrepresentation under the physical disabilities and OBC categories. Additionally, concerns have been raised about her conduct during her posting in Pune, with allegations of misusing power and privileges.

In response to these allegations, Pune Police have initiated an inquiry into the authenticity of medical certificates submitted by Khedkar. A senior police official confirmed receiving instructions from the Office of the Commissioner for Persons With Disabilities to verify these certificates thoroughly.

Last week, the Central government established a single-member panel to investigate Khedkar’s candidature and is expected to submit a report within two weeks.

In recent comments, Puja Khedkar expressed confidence that “truth will prevail” in the ongoing probe against her. She criticized what she termed as a media trial, reiterating her commitment to fulfilling her duties as an IAS probationer while emphasizing that the final decision rests with government authorities.

The developments surrounding Puja Khedkar have sparked significant scrutiny and debate, highlighting concerns over the integrity of the civil services recruitment process.
