Dhaka, July 30, 2024: Robi Axiata Limited, Bangladesh’s second-largest mobile phone operator, reported a four-fold increase in its net profits for the second quarter of 2024, primarily driven by higher sales and reduced spending on raw materials.
On Monday, Robi announced that its profit after tax for the April-June period reached 1.07 billion taka (9.09 million USD), a significant rise from 240 million taka in the same period of 2023. The company’s financial report highlighted increased sales and a decrease in costs of revenue or raw materials as key factors contributing to the profit surge.
Bangladesh currently has four mobile operators: Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink, and Teletalk, with the first three being foreign-backed. According to data from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the number of mobile subscribers in the country reached 195.09 million in May this year.
At the end of May, subscriber numbers for the operators were as follows: Grameenphone with 84.91 million, Robi Axiata with 58.88 million, Banglalink with 44.73 million, and Teletalk with 6.57 million, according to BTRC data.
