Faridabad, June 28: Former NIT-86 Faridabad MLA Neeraj Sharma has strongly criticized the alleged irregularities and misappropriation of donations related to the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya, calling for stringent legal action against those found responsible. Describing the issue as a matter of deep public faith, Sharma said the Shri Ram Temple is not merely a place of worship but a sacred symbol of devotion for millions of Indians and members of the Indian diaspora across the world.
Expressing his concern, Sharma said it was deeply unfortunate that while history records instances of temples being plundered by foreign invaders, allegations have now emerged against individuals from within the country itself. He claimed that the alleged misappropriation of temple donations was not merely a financial irregularity but an issue that had hurt the sentiments of devotees and damaged the global image of Sanatan Dharma.
Sharing his recent experience from overseas visits, Sharma said he had recently returned after conducting Shri Ram Katha programmes abroad, where members of the Indian diaspora had also expressed concern over the reported developments. He stated that people from all sections of society—including villagers, sarpanches from Faridabad, and Indians living overseas—had contributed generously towards the construction of the temple.
He further alleged that there was no transparent public accounting of stones reportedly collected during the temple movement decades ago, nor of the gold, silver, and cash donations made in recent years. Raising concerns over the construction work, Sharma also alleged that temporary fibre structures had been erected at places where permanent and secure walls should have been constructed, thereby undermining the faith of devotees.
The former MLA urged the Central Government to convene a special session of Parliament instead of attempting to suppress the matter. He called for the introduction of a special Bill providing stringent legal provisions against anyone found guilty of theft or misappropriation of temple assets. According to Sharma, those responsible should face the harshest punishment permissible under the Constitution and applicable laws rather than being prosecuted only under ordinary provisions relating to theft or cheating.
Reiterating his demand for an impartial inquiry, Sharma called for the constitution of an all-party committee and a high-level judicial investigation under the supervision of a sitting judge of the Supreme Court to establish the facts. He said such a probe was necessary to restore public confidence, uphold the sanctity of Sanatan Dharma, and protect the country’s reputation at the global level.
