Political parties and candidates must secure MCMC committee approval for election advertisements: District Election Officer Vikram Singh

Faridabad District Election Officer Vikram Singh mandates that all election advertisements must receive Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) approval. Political parties and candidates must submit applications 48 hours in advance. Non-compliance may result in legal action.

Faridabad, 17 September 2024: In a bid to uphold the integrity of the electoral process for the upcoming Haryana Assembly Elections, the Faridabad District Administration is rigorously enforcing the Model Code of Conduct. District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Vikram Singh has outlined crucial measures to ensure compliance, emphasizing the importance of Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) approval for all election-related advertisements.

DC Vikram Singh has appointed Additional Commissioner of Municipal Corporation, Swapnil Ravindra Patil, as the nodal officer for the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee. Under the vigilant oversight of this committee, Faridabad’s electoral process will be monitored around the clock to maintain adherence to the Election Commission of India’s regulations.

The MCMC is responsible for scrutinizing and approving all paid news and advertisements appearing in print, electronic, and social media. According to the Election Commission’s guidelines, no political advertisement can be broadcast or published without prior certification from the MCMC. This rule applies to a wide range of media platforms, including television channels, cable networks, radio stations, private FM channels, cinema halls, and public audio-visual displays.

Candidates and political parties are required to submit their applications for MCMC certification a minimum of 48 hours before they intend to broadcast or publish any election-related content. The certification process involves the submission of a prescribed form to ensure that all advertisements and paid news adhere to the standards set forth by the Election Commission.

DC Vikram Singh stressed that any violation of these rules could lead to legal action. The MCMC is tasked with taking decisive action against unauthorized paid news and ensuring that all election advertisements are certified before dissemination. This oversight is crucial to prevent any potential misuse of media platforms and to maintain a fair electoral environment.

On Tuesday, Additional Commissioner Swapnil Ravindra Patil conducted an inspection of the MCMC cell located at the Mini Secretariat, Room 10. During his visit, he provided essential instructions to the staff, reviewed the log register, and ensured that all procedures were being followed diligently. Patil highlighted the importance of securing MCMC certification for all election advertisements and reminded candidates and political parties of the certification cell’s location in Room 10 of the Mini Secretariat.

The establishment of MCMCs at both district and state levels underscores the commitment to a transparent and regulated electoral process. Candidates and political parties are urged to comply with these regulations to avoid any disruptions to their campaign activities and to ensure that their election-related content is appropriately vetted and authorized.
