Faridabad, August 2, 2024: On Sunday, Faridabad police uncovered two illegal call centres and arrested 28 individuals involved in a fraudulent scheme posing as technical support agents. The operation, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cyber) Abhimanyu Goyat, resulted in the recovery of six mobile phones and 50 laptops.
The police initiated the raids after receiving a tip-off on July 20. The first raid was conducted at a call centre in Sector 86, where Yash Taneja, Avidip, and Chirag Arora were arrested. Further investigation identified Deepika Arora, Hemant Tiwari, Lavi Guglani, Aethil Gulati, and Sahil Sodhi as additional suspects. Sameer Srivastava, alleged to be the mastermind behind the operation, was also arrested and is currently under a five-day police remand.
A second raid, carried out in the YMCA area by a combined team from Cyber Police Ballabhgarh and Sector 7 Police Post, led to the arrest of 17 individuals, including five women. The team seized 45 laptops and one mobile phone during this raid. Additionally, two more suspects, Apson and call centre manager Rakesh, were arrested in Delhi, where two more mobile phones were confiscated.
The suspects operated fake toll-free numbers, posing as representatives of major companies and deceiving foreign nationals into believing they were receiving legitimate technical support. Using remote access tools such as AnyDesk, TeamViewer, and UltraViewer, they convinced victims of fabricated issues like data breaches and financial leaks, extorting money to “resolve” these non-existent problems.
