MoU for development of Agroha archaeological site in the presence of CM Manohar Lal

New Delhi, March 2 – Haryana government is going to develop Agroha Archaeological site as a tourist destination on the lines of Rakhigarhi. For this, an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the Archaeological Survey of India and the Haryana government Department of Archeology and Museums on coming Sunday. The MoU signing ceremony will take place at Haryana Bhawan, New Delhi, in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Sh. Manohar Lal. Haryana Vidhan Sabha speaker, Sh. Gian Chand Gupta and Urban and Local Bodies Minister, Dr Kamal Gupta will also remain present.

Director, Archaeology & Museums Haryana, Sh. Amit Khatri said that the government had already announced the development of Agroha Dham, a pilgrimage site of the Aggarwal community in Hisar district, as a tourist destination like ‘Rakhigarhi’, the largest site of the Indus Valley Civilization.

He said that a museum will be built at the Agroha Dham site, for which the government has jointly approved the development of the Agroha site and its surrounding areas by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Haryana Archaeological Department.

An MoU will be signed between ASI and the Haryana government in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Sh. Manohar Lal at the event to be held in New Delhi on Sunday.

Sh. Khatri said that the Agroha site will be the centre for preserving and presenting Haryana’s historical and cultural heritage in the coming years and will promote the importance of Agroha as a cultural and historical destination. In addition, the state government is going to develop Agroha, another historically important site on the lines of ‘Rakhigarhi’. He said that the development of this site would not only establish it as an iconic center of faith but would also give it recognition as a major tourist destination. He said that the government has identified several archaeological sites in Haryana, including Agroha, and they are being developed jointly by the central and state governments.

Haryana Heritage and Tourism Department Principal Secretary, Sh. MD Sinha will also be present on the occasion.
