Raipur, 5 July 2024;- Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of five people who likely succumbed to toxic gas inhalation inside a well in Janjgir-Champa district. The tragedy occurred in the village of Kikirda, where a man named Ramchand Jaiswal entered a long-closed well on his property to retrieve a fallen strip of wood. When Jaiswal did not return, his family and neighbors attempted rescue efforts, resulting in further fatalities.
The deceased include Jaiswal, his neighbor Ramesh Patel, Patel’s two sons Rajendra and Jitendra, and another neighbor, Tikesh Chandra. The suspected presence of poisonous gas in the well is under investigation by a forensic team and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Chief Minister Sai expressed his condolences via social media, praying for peace for the departed souls and strength for the grieving families. The SDRF from Bilaspur and the local police quickly responded to the incident, retrieving the bodies and beginning a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the deaths.
