Germany: A serious violent confrontation inside a gurdwara in Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia region escalated into a major security incident after members of the community allegedly engaged in a physical fight involving sharp weapons, including kirpans and knives.

According to local media reports, the incident appears to have originated from ongoing internal disagreements within the gurdwara management. Initial findings suggest that tensions were linked to the formation of a new governing committee and disputes over control of funds and administration.

Eyewitness accounts and video footage circulating online indicate that the situation quickly escalated, with individuals reportedly pulling out kirpans and other sharp objects during the altercation. Some witnesses also claimed that pepper spray was used, and panic spread among those present during prayer activities.

Authorities said the violence prompted a large-scale emergency response. Nearly 100 police personnel were deployed to the site, including special tactical units from Düsseldorf. A helicopter was also used to monitor the situation from above as officials feared further escalation.

One witness described seeing multiple weapons being used during the clash and said the confrontation had been building for some time due to disagreements between former and current committee members. The disputes were reportedly linked not only to leadership control but also to financial matters within the religious institution.

Emergency medical teams treated several injured individuals on-site, with reports indicating that most injuries were head-related. Security forces later secured the premises and began a detailed search operation.

Although there were initial concerns about gunfire, investigators later recovered cartridge cases, raising questions about whether a blank-firing weapon may have been used. However, officials have not yet confirmed the presence of any firearm at the scene.
