New Delhi, May 7, 2026: The Technology Development Board under the Department of Science and Technology has extended support to NTF Energy Solutions Pvt. Ltd. for setting up a manufacturing facility aimed at commercial production of indigenous Type IV CNG cylinders. The initiative is aligned with the Government of India’s vision of promoting clean transportation, reducing carbon emissions and strengthening self reliance in advanced manufacturing.
The upcoming facility in Delhi will focus on producing next generation composite CNG cylinders using modern technologies such as filament winding, blow moulding and high pressure testing systems. The project is expected to strengthen India’s domestic capability in advanced gas storage solutions for clean fuel transportation and future energy applications.
Unlike conventional steel cylinders, Type IV composite cylinders are significantly lighter and can reduce overall weight by nearly 75 percent. This helps improve vehicle performance and fuel efficiency while lowering emissions. The cylinders are built with corrosion resistant polymer liners and advanced carbon fibre reinforced structures that improve durability, safety and resistance to leakage and vibration.
Officials stated that the cylinders have been designed to withstand extremely high pressure conditions with safety performance exceeding regulatory standards. The technology has been developed entirely within India and is intended to support the country’s rapidly expanding CNG based mobility network.
Secretary of the Technology Development Board, Rajesh Kumar Pathak said the project marks an important step towards strengthening India’s clean mobility infrastructure and indigenous manufacturing ecosystem. He added that support for advanced technologies such as Type IV composite cylinders reflects the government’s focus on sustainable transportation and energy security.
Managing Director Naveen Jain and Director Naman Jain expressed confidence that the project will accelerate commercialisation of lightweight composite cylinder technology and contribute to India’s transition towards cleaner and more efficient mobility solutions.
