Andhra Pradesh Man Held for Allegedly Killing Wife With Poison-Laced Food

Police suspect ongoing marital tensions and an alleged affair may have driven the accused to plan the murder

Andhra Pradesh: In a shocking case from Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district, police have a middle aged man identified as Kiran Kumar Badripalli, for allegedly murdering his wife after a planned and calculated attack involving poison-laced sweets and smothering.

According to police, the accused allegedly poisoned his wife, Badripalli Padmaja (31) after watching an online video about a lethal substance. He reportedly purchased the poison for ₹80,000 from a YouTuber and mixed it into a sweet and fed her on April 30. When his wide became unconscious, he smothered her with a pillow, trying to suffocate and kill her.

Investigators said Kiran Kumar claimed his wife had become obese and neglected her diet and personal hygiene, which led to frequent arguments between them. Police also stated that he was involved in an extramarital affair with a colleague, and tensions escalated when his wife objected to it.

After Padmaja’s father, Raja Kullayi, approached the police with suspicions surrounding his daughter’s death, Proddatur police registered a case of suspicious death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sent the body for autopsy. The postmortem findings later confirmed the presence of poison, leading investigators to treat the case as murder.

Police subsequently detained Kiran Kumar for questioning, during which he allegedly admitted to the crime. Officials clarified that the woman linked to Kiran Kumar’s alleged extramarital relationship is not believed to have been involved in the murder. However, investigators are now searching for the YouTuber accused of supplying the poison.
