Washington DC- Space enthusiasts and curious users now have a fun new way to connect with Earth’s landscapes, thanks to a creative initiative by NASA. The programme, called ‘Your Name in Landsat’, allows users to visualise their names using satellite imagery captured under the Landsat program.
The tool works by matching letters of a user’s name with naturally occurring geographical formations across the planet. Each character is represented by satellite images of features such as rivers, mountains, glaciers, or deserts that resemble letter shapes when viewed from space.
For instance, a simple word or name can be transformed into a sequence of striking Earth images — one letter might look like a winding fjord in Tibet, while another could resemble a lake formation in Australia. The result is a personalised visual made entirely from real satellite data.
To use the generator, users simply need to visit the official Landsat tool page on NASA’s website, enter any name or word of their choice, and submit it. The tool then instantly creates a customised image where each letter is mapped to a unique landscape. Users can download or share their generated artwork.
The initiative is designed not just for entertainment but also to spark curiosity about Earth observation, geography, and satellite imaging. By blending creativity with science, NASA aims to make complex space-based technologies more engaging and accessible to the general public.
