Faridabad/Palwal: Industrial areas in Faridabad and Palwal witnessed widespread protests on Monday as thousands of factory workers raised concerns over the delayed implementation of the recently announced minimum wage increase.
According to officials, nearly 7,500 workers participated in demonstrations across both districts, alleging that several factory managements had yet to formally communicate or enforce the revised wage structure notified by the Haryana government.
In Palwal, a large group of workers gathered in the Prithla industrial belt and blocked a key highway connecting Delhi and Agra, leading to significant traffic congestion for a couple of hours. Police later intervened to clear the route and restore movement.
Meanwhile, in Faridabad, tensions were brought under control after intervention by labour department officials and district authorities, who assured workers that the revised wages would be implemented with effect from April 1.
The protests follow similar unrest reported recently in IMT Manesar, where workers demanded compliance with updated labour regulations and pay scales.
Labour representatives pointed to a lack of clear communication from employers as a major factor behind the agitation. They said uncertainty and absence of official notices had created confusion among workers regarding the new wage structure.
District officials acknowledged the communication gap and stated that instructions have now been issued to industries to inform employees about the revised wages and ensure timely implementation.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely to prevent further disruptions, while efforts are underway to address worker grievances and maintain industrial harmony.
