Noida Workers Protest Today: Salary Hike Demand Triggers Chaos, Roads Blocked Near Delhi Border

Demand for ₹20,000 Monthly Pay Sparks Massive Unrest in Noida Industrial Areas

Noida (Uttar Pradesh): A large-scale protest by factory workers erupted across multiple industrial sectors of Noida on Monday, as labourers demanded a long-overdue increase in wages. What began as a peaceful demonstration soon escalated into disruption, affecting traffic movement and public order in key areas of the city.

Thousands of workers from different manufacturing units gathered in industrial zones, raising concerns over stagnant wages despite rising living costs. Protesters insisted that a standard salary of ₹20,000 for an 8-hour shift should be implemented.

Many workers shared that current salary hikes are negligible, with some receiving increments as low as ₹200–₹300. Several labourers also alleged that they are forced to work extended hours — up to 12 hours daily — for salaries as low as ₹13,000 per month.

The agitation was reported in areas such as Phase 2, Sector 60, Sector 62, and Sector 84. In some locations, the situation intensified, with reports of:

  • Vehicles being set on fire
  • Damage to public and private property
  • Incidents of stone pelting

Authorities confirmed that unrest was concentrated in limited pockets, while most protest sites remained under control.

The protest had a major impact on daily commuters, especially on routes connecting Delhi and Noida. Key roads, including the Noida Link Road and areas near the Chilla border, witnessed:

  • Massive traffic jams
  • Long queues of vehicles stretching several kilometres
  • Thousands of office-goers stranded during peak hours

Traffic movement was later restored after police intervention.Security forces were deployed across affected industrial zones to prevent further escalation. Senior officials remained on-site to oversee crowd control and ensure safety.

Authorities stated that:

  • The situation is now under control
  • No firing incidents occurred
  • Strict action is being taken against those spreading misinformation

Police have also initiated legal action against certain social media accounts accused of circulating false claims about the protest.

Officials are currently assessing the situation while also examining the role of external elements in triggering unrest. Meanwhile, workers continue to demand immediate government intervention for fair wages and improved working conditions.
