Noida: Tensions escalated sharply in the city’s industrial belt on Monday as protests by factory workers over wage demands turned violent, leading to arson, stone-pelting, and a massive police deployment.
The unrest was reported from Phase-2 areas, including Sector 60 and 62, where agitating workers clashed with police forces. Several vehicles, including government property, were set ablaze, while others were damaged during the confrontation.
The agitation, which has been ongoing for several days, stems from workers’ demand for a salary increase in line with labour regulations. Protesters claimed that promised wage revisions have not been implemented.
Anger intensified after reports that a female worker was injured during police action, triggering further outrage among the demonstrators.
As the situation spiralled, protesters resorted to stone-pelting and vandalism, targeting vehicles and public property. The escalation prompted authorities to step up security across the affected zones.
The unrest also led to severe traffic disruptions, particularly along routes connecting Noida with Delhi, leaving commuters stranded for extended periods.
Police officials said that additional forces have been deployed across key industrial pockets under the Gautam Buddh Nagar commissionerate. Senior officers are on-site to monitor developments and ensure law and order.
Authorities stated that the situation is being closely watched and efforts are underway to restore normalcy through dialogue and controlled intervention.
In view of the escalating tensions, security has also been tightened in the national capital. Delhi Police has increased vigilance at major entry points linking Noida to Delhi to prevent any spillover of unrest.
Officials emphasised that strict measures are in place to maintain order and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information.
While authorities maintain that the situation is gradually stabilising, tensions remain in parts of the industrial zone. Talks with workers and stakeholders are expected to continue as efforts are made to address their concerns.
