GVM Girls College, Sonipat Wins National Energy Conservation Award

President Droupadi Murmu presents award to College Management Committee Chairman Dr O.P. Paruthi at Vigyan Bhavan; college saves 14 lakh units of energy

Sonipat: GVM Girls College, Sonipat has been honoured with the prestigious National Energy Conservation First Award for its outstanding contribution in the field of energy conservation. The award was conferred for achieving savings of 14 lakh units of energy and was presented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. On the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day, a grand ceremony was organised at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu presented the award to the Chairman of the College Management Committee, Dr O. P. Paruthi. This achievement has brought pride not only to GVM Girls College but also to Sonipat city and the state of Haryana. Addressing the occasion, Dr O. P. Paruthi said that energy conservation has today become not just a necessity but a national responsibility. He emphasised that sustainable development can be achieved only through the judicious and efficient use of limited energy resources.

He highlighted that GVM Girls College had earlier received the Haryana State First Energy Conservation Award on October 30, 2025, and winning the national-level award is a result of the institution’s consistent efforts, visionary leadership and strong work culture. Dr O. P. Paruthi also lauded the dedicated efforts of College Principal Dr Manjula Spah, stating that her initiatives in promoting energy conservation are truly inspiring. Under her leadership, the college has successfully implemented measures for efficient energy use, awareness programmes and environmentally friendly practices.

These efforts have not only led to resource conservation but have also instilled a sense of environmental responsibility among students and staff. He further stated that the college continuously adopts modern technologies, energy-efficient equipment and awareness initiatives to prioritise energy efficiency. Dr O. P. Paruthi appealed to students to practise energy conservation in their daily lives and spread awareness in society, expressing confidence that educational institutions can bring positive change by setting examples. Principal Dr Manjula Spah said that the college has taken consistent and effective steps for managing energy consumption, including the use of energy-efficient appliances, awareness campaigns and regular monitoring systems.

She credited this achievement to the collective efforts of students, teachers and staff. She also noted that National Energy Conservation Day is observed every year on December 14 to honour institutions and industries making significant contributions towards energy conservation.
