New Delhi : In view of the prevailing situation, the Delhi government has issued a directive cancelling all leaves of its officials and officers until further notice. The decision comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance the readiness and responsiveness of the administrative machinery in times of heightened alert or crisis.
According to an official order released on Thursday, the government stated that the immediate availability of all personnel is crucial to ensure that the emergency response system functions without disruption. All departments, including health, disaster management, public works, transport, and law enforcement, have been directed to ensure that their staff report to duty without exception.
The order underlined that no leave, including casual or earned leave, would be granted, and officers currently on leave have been instructed to return to duty at the earliest. Heads of departments (HoDs) have been asked to maintain strict attendance records and report any violations or absenteeism to higher authorities.
Though the government has not explicitly detailed the cause behind the move, officials suggest that the measure is a proactive step to manage potential emergencies—ranging from law and order situations, public health risks, to environmental challenges such as floods or pollution spikes.
A senior Delhi government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “The order is a standard administrative step taken during periods of heightened readiness. Whether it’s a civil emergency, a natural disaster alert, or a law-and-order contingency, the availability of officials across departments is non-negotiable.”
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and other key agencies have also been placed on alert mode. Control rooms are being monitored around the clock, and rapid response teams have been asked to stay on standby.
Public-facing services, including helplines and citizen grievance redressal systems, are being reviewed to ensure full functionality. The government has appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities and refrain from spreading rumours or unverified information.
This directive follows a pattern seen in other major cities during emergency situations, where all administrative personnel are required to be available at short notice to deal with evolving situations swiftly and efficiently.
