IMD Forecasts Thunderstorms and Rain in Delhi, Minimum Temperature at 18°C

New Delhi : Delhi is set to experience thunderstorms with rain on Thursday, February 27, as per the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The minimum temperature in the capital is expected to settle around 18 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is likely to reach 26 degrees Celsius. As of 9 AM, the recorded temperature in the city was 21.2 degrees Celsius. The changing weather conditions are attributed to an approaching Western Disturbance, which is expected to bring rainfall across North India, including Delhi and its neighboring states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana, between February 27 and March 1.

Despite the rain forecast, the air quality in the capital remains poor, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 260. The pollution levels continue to be a concern, and authorities advise residents, particularly those with respiratory issues, to take necessary precautions. However, the expected rainfall and increased wind speeds may aid in the dispersal of pollutants, potentially bringing some improvement in air quality over the coming days.

The IMD has also noted that there will be no significant change in minimum temperatures across most parts of the country, except for the Northwest region, where fluctuations are expected over the next four to five days. The weather system moving across North India is likely to bring moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas, accompanied by thunderstorms. This shift in weather is expected to provide relief from dry conditions and contribute to a marginal drop in temperatures in affected regions.

In Delhi, wind speeds are anticipated to pick up as the day progresses, reducing air stagnation and improving atmospheric conditions. The national capital might experience a breezy afternoon, helping in better dispersion of pollutants. However, residents should remain cautious as thunderstorms and rainfall might lead to localized waterlogging and disruptions in traffic movement. The combination of increased wind activity and precipitation could also lead to a temporary dip in temperatures, making the weather relatively cooler than the preceding days.

As the Western Disturbance influences the regional climate, authorities will continue monitoring the situation closely. Residents are advised to stay updated with official weather reports and make necessary adjustments to their daily plans. While the rainfall is expected to bring some relief from pollution, it is also essential for citizens to be prepared for potential delays and disruptions.
