UPSC to Publish Provisional Answer Key for Civil Services Prelims 2026 Soon After Examination

Major Transparency Reform Introduced; Candidates to Get Early Opportunity for Review and Objection Submission

New Delhi, May 18, 2026: In a landmark move aimed at improving transparency in India’s premier recruitment process, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced that it will publish the provisional answer key for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 shortly after the examination is conducted.

Describing the initiative as a significant step forward, UPSC Chairman Dr. Ajay Kumar said the Commission is introducing this mechanism for the first time to ensure greater openness, faster communication, and improved candidate engagement. He noted that the reform reflects UPSC’s commitment to making the examination process more transparent while maintaining its core values of fairness, integrity, and merit.

Under the new system, aspirants will be given an opportunity to review the provisional answer key and submit objections or representations through the dedicated “Online Question Paper Representation Portal (QPRep)” on the official UPSC online platform. The objection window will remain open until May 31, 2026, at 6 PM.

Candidates raising objections will need to specify the answer they believe is correct, provide supporting explanations, and submit documentary evidence from three reliable academic or authentic sources. This process is expected to help candidates better evaluate their performance soon after the examination and offer them sufficient time to raise valid concerns.

All submissions received from candidates will undergo careful scrutiny by subject experts appointed by the Commission. These specialists will assess each challenge, review the evidence presented, and determine the accuracy of disputed answers before the final answer key is officially released.

The reform addresses a long-pending demand from Civil Services aspirants for early access to answer keys and marks a major policy shift in UPSC’s examination framework. By introducing provisional answer key publication, the Commission seeks to strengthen trust among candidates and reinforce accountability within the examination system.
