Samrat Choudhary Wins Trust Vote, Promises Continuity of Nitish Kumar Model in Bihar

New Bihar CM outlines governance roadmap, targets development and ‘triple C’ crackdown

Patna: Samrat Choudhary on Friday won the trust vote in the Bihar Legislative Assembly by voice vote and pledged to carry forward the governance model of his predecessor Nitish Kumar, with a focus on curbing corruption, crime, and communalism.

Addressing the House, Choudhary said his government would directly monitor administrative units at the grassroots level, including block, circle, and police stations, to ensure efficient governance. He laid out priorities such as boosting private investment, accelerating infrastructure development, creating 11 townships, and strengthening sectors like agriculture, education, and healthcare.

Highlighting the National Democratic Alliance’s track record, he said the NDA government under Kumar worked for all sections of society over the past two decades. He also aligned Bihar’s development vision with Narendra Modi’s push for a developed India.

Choudhary took aim at opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav, rejecting criticism that labelled him a “product of Lalu school.” He credited his political rise to public support and the backing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, stating that democracy—not lineage—determines leadership.

The chief minister also acknowledged the role of Lalu Prasad Yadav in Bihar’s political history while asserting that his own leadership would focus firmly on development, job creation, and industrial growth.

Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav accused the BJP of betraying the electoral mandate by replacing Kumar with a “selected” leader. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, however, described the transition as a smooth generational shift backed by public trust.

The new government has set ambitious targets, including generating 10 million jobs and accelerating Bihar’s economic transformation in the coming years.
