Israel: An Israeli court has postponed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled testimony in his long-running corruption trial after a request citing security and diplomatic considerations, adding a fresh twist to the closely watched legal proceedings.
The Jerusalem District Court reportedly approved the delay after Netanyahu’s office argued that recent developments tied to regional security and diplomatic pressures made it difficult for the prime minister to appear as scheduled.
Instead of hearing Netanyahu’s testimony, the court is expected to proceed with another defence witness, ensuring the trial continues despite the postponement.
The delay comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the Middle East, with the court informed that security-related factors linked to recent developments were central to the request.
Prosecutors, however, have reportedly maintained that the proceedings should continue without unnecessary delays, citing public interest in advancing the case.
Netanyahu is facing charges in multiple corruption cases involving allegations of bribery, fraud and breach of trust, charges he has denied. The trial remains one of the most significant legal proceedings involving a sitting Israeli prime minister.
