Pune Child Murder Case: Govt Pushes for Death Penalty, Fast-Track Trial Assured

Maharashtra CM vows swift justice as outrage grows over brutal crime in Bhor region

NagpurMaharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the state government will seek the death penalty for the accused in the Pune child rape-murder case and ensure that the trial is conducted on a fast-track basis.

The assurance comes amid widespread public outrage following the killing of a four-year-old girl in the Bhor area of Pune district. A 65-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the crime, which has triggered protests and strong reactions across the region.

Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, the chief minister said he had personally spoken with the victim’s family and assured them that the government would pursue the harshest punishment under the law. He emphasised that efforts would be made to conclude the trial swiftly and deliver justice in the shortest possible time.

Fadnavis noted that while public anger in such cases often demands immediate and extreme punishment, legal procedures must be followed in a democratic system. He stressed that the investigation would be thorough and evidence-based to ensure a strong case in court without procedural lapses.

The incident has also led to criticism from opposition parties over the state’s law and order situation. Responding to the remarks, the chief minister said political criticism is expected but maintained that his government is committed to strict action and justice for the victim.

Authorities have already initiated legal proceedings, and officials indicated that all necessary steps are being taken to build a solid case against the accused.
