Accused arrested after minor dies during treatment; incident shocks Uttar Pradesh village

Kasganj– A shocking incident has emerged from Kasganj, where a nine-year-old boy was allegedly shot dead after refusing to fetch water for a man during a village ceremony.

Police said the incident took place in Yakutganj village under the jurisdiction of Sahawar Police Station on the night of May 1–2. The accused, identified as Dhanesh Yadav, allegedly opened fire on the child following a brief altercation.

According to the victim’s family, the boy had accompanied his father to attend a naming ceremony when the accused, who was reportedly consuming alcohol, asked him to bring water. When the child refused, the man allegedly fired at him in anger.

The injured boy was initially taken to a local hospital and later referred to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Aligarh due to his critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Saturday.

Police launched a search operation soon after the incident and arrested the accused, who had fled the scene. A weapon was also recovered during the arrest, officials said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with charges upgraded to murder following the boy’s death.

Authorities have sent the accused to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway. The incident has sparked outrage in the area, raising concerns over safety and the increasing instances of violent crime.
