New Delhi: 10 June: Minister for Social Welfare, SC/ST Welfare, Elections and Cooperation, Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh, on Tuesday, participated in a tree plantation program at the Government Co-Educational Sarvodaya School, Sector-22, Rohini under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0” campaign, conveying a strong message of environmental conservation. The event saw the active participation of school teachers, students, and local residents.
Social welfare minister said, The objective of plantation at schools, is to foster a sense of love and sensitivity towards nature among children. On this occasion, Ravinder Indraj said, “Children are the future of any nation. When we try to connect them with nature from an early age, they grow up to be responsible citizens towards the environment.
Plantation drives in schools not only increase greenery but also instill environmental awareness among students.”
In his address, Shri Ravinder Indraj emphasized that trees are essential for life, and even in today’s highly advanced scientific era, there is no substitute for them. Calling tree plantation “the need of the hour,” he said, “Trees not only provide shade and oxygen but also serve as shelter for hundreds of species. Protecting them is a collective responsibility.”
Praising the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Shri Ravinder Indraj highlighted that under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, a target has been set to plant 7 million saplings across Delhi this year. He encouraged students to plant trees in vacant spaces around them and motivate their parents, families, and neighbors to do the same.
He added, “No campaign can succeed without public participation. Trees give us life without expecting anything in return. It is our duty to protect them and plant as many as we can.”
The Social Welfare Minister expressed gratitude to all students and teachers for their participation and urged that this initiative should not remain a one-day event, but become a lifelong habit.
