Big Jolt to AAP: Top Leaders Trail as BJP Leads in 46 Seats

New Delhi, Feb 8, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears set to reclaim power in Delhi after 27 years, leading in 48 seats—well past the majority mark of 36—as counting continues for the 70-member Assembly elections.

With more than half of the votes counted, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) finds itself struggling, leading in only 22 constituencies. Several of its top leaders, including National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, are trailing against their BJP rivals, signaling a potential political shift in the capital.

Adding to AAP’s troubles, other senior leaders such as former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and current minister Saurabh Bharadwaj are also behind in their respective seats. The vote count has fluctuated, with AAP heavyweights initially leading in some rounds before slipping behind as the counting progressed.

Meanwhile, the Congress, which suffered a wipeout in the previous Delhi Assembly elections, is headed for yet another debacle, failing to take the lead in any constituency so far.

In terms of vote share, the BJP currently holds 47.16% of the votes, while AAP has secured 43.01%. The Congress trails far behind with just 6.49% of the votes.

With trends strongly favoring the BJP, the party seems poised for a sweeping victory, marking a major political turnaround in Delhi’s governance.
