Delhi Signs MoU to Set Up Bio-CNG Plants at Tehkhand and Okhla
MCD and Oil India Limited partner to process 800 tonnes of organic waste daily, boosting clean energy production and reducing landfill pressure

Delhi Bio-CNG Plants received a major boost as the Delhi government facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Oil India Limited to establish Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants at Tehkhand and Okhla.
The agreement was formalised in the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta as part of the government’s efforts to promote environmentally responsible urban infrastructure and strengthen clean energy initiatives in the national capital.
The proposed facilities will have a combined processing capacity of around 800 tonnes of segregated organic waste per day. The plants will convert biodegradable waste into Bio-CNG and organic manure through scientific processing, helping reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill sites.
The initiative is expected to improve waste disposal systems, generate renewable fuel, and support the city’s ongoing campaign to tackle legacy garbage accumulation. Officials said the project aligns with the government’s vision of transforming waste into a valuable resource while encouraging sustainable development.
The Delhi government stated that the project will contribute to cleaner surroundings, lower environmental pollution, and more efficient utilisation of municipal waste, marking another significant step in building a greener and more resilient capital.
