Shocker in Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal Defeated by BJP’s Parvesh Verma in New Delhi Seat

New Delhi, Feb 8, 2025: AAP national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is trailing behind BJP’s Parvesh Verma after the 10th round of counting in the New Delhi assembly constituency. Kejriwal has so far secured 22,057 votes, while Verma is leading with 25,057 votes—a margin of over 3,000 votes. With three rounds of counting still remaining, the battle for this high-profile seat remains intense. Meanwhile, Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, has received only 3,873 votes.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a strong lead across Delhi, currently ahead in 48 out of 70 assembly constituencies. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is leading in 21 seats, while the Congress has yet to secure a lead in any constituency. The majority mark to form a government in Delhi is 36 seats.

The New Delhi assembly seat is witnessing a high-stakes electoral contest between three prominent candidates—Arvind Kejriwal from AAP, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma from BJP, and Sandeep Dikshit representing the Indian National Congress (INC). The counting of votes, which began at 8 AM, is also underway for the remaining 69 constituencies in the Delhi Assembly election.

According to the Election Commission of India, the New Delhi constituency recorded a voter turnout of 56.41%. As counting progresses, the final result of this crucial seat is expected to be closely watched.

This election will determine whether AAP secures a fourth consecutive term in Delhi or if BJP returns to power in the national capital after a 26-year hiatus. With counting still ongoing, all eyes remain on the final results, which will shape the future political landscape of Delhi.
